We are developing our membership, with six new musicians who joined this year. Six of our musicians have left: two moved away (one to Sweden!), one aged out, and three more found that other commitments in their lives precluded participation. We miss them terribly, but we are excited to see how the group develops this year.
One of our new members is a young cellist! It has been interesting and fun for us as Directors to develop parts for the cello, learning along the way, and figuring out what things work, and what really do not! Merle, our cellist, has been extremely patient while we worked to make sure he had parts, recordings, and support to learn them.
We are also developing in terms of our growth as an organization. We’re now a bona fide non-profit organization, capable of accepting charitable donations. While it has taken a lot of work and time to get this done, we feel it moves us into a much stronger position in key ways – it helps us to rent space at a better rate, and it allows us to cast a much wider fund raising net. Why is this important?
It’s important because we are producing our first ever CD this season! If everything goes according to plan, our CD should be available for purchase by the end of May, perhaps sooner. With live recordings, the CD should prove to be an excellent representation of both our music, and the joy we find playing together.
