In Portland we stayed with host families who took good care of us, and had some very fun times while we weren’t performing. The whole group got in a picture with the Finnish Santa Claus at ScanFair, we all got on the stage and danced while another group was playing, we went to a delicious pizza place for lunch one day, and looked around at all the booths in the festival. Even though we were only there for such a short time, we made some great memories and got closer as a group.
We were scheduled to play three sets. Our first set was on the main stage in a large hall. I was only slightly nervous as we were about to start our first tune. Only about half of the total group had traveled down to Portland but I remember being amazed at just how much sound we created. We rocked it. Tune after tune, the crowd sitting in the chairs by the stage got bigger and bigger, even though we were the last set of the day. At the end of the very last tune we played, we looked to Martha, our Director, for the ending and as we ended our last note in unison, she nodded as if to say, "Yes. That was GOOD!"
